Reliability-Centred Maintenance RCM2

What is RCM ?

The more serious the consequences of a failure, the more time and effort should be spent on trying to prevent it. This led the airlines to use a formal evaluation of failure consequences as a basis for deciding what maintenance should be done. The decision-making framework which they developed to do this is at the heart of Reliability-centred Maintenance.

Established in 1992 Navigate:

RCM was originally developed by the Federation of Aviation Authority, partially funded by the US Government, in order to maintain civil aircraft to a safer standard. Another objective was to develop a methodology for compiling maintenance schedule for completely new type of aircraft to solve the problem of insufficient failure data in the initial period.

RCM is the second generation of the maintenance technique that was developed and applied over the past thirty years in the most demanding maintenance arena -- civil aviation. The development of RCM while aviation shifted from the DC 8 to the DC 10, a far more complex aircraft, allowed items subject to overhaul to drop from 339 to 7, while reliability and safety increased 240 %. Its numerous applications over the past three decades in all major industries prove it to be the most advanced and effective maintenance management method.

We are a member of the Ivara / Aladon network since 1993. All qualified RCM consultants are trained and certified in the Europe or N. America for both classroom knowledge and practical project experience. Our network of consultants have implemented RCM in several hundred corporations, worldwide. Our business philosophy is based on the transfer of RCM operating technology and skills to our clients. This reduces the need for expensive outsiders. The knowledge and skills developed by the RCM review groups stays within your company. We train interdepartmental RCM review groups composed of those people who know your machines best -- your operations and maintenance people. The RCM skills they apply will not only give you the most cost efficient maintenance schedules, increased production and improved quality, but you will also foster teamwork between the maintenance and production department.

Our RCM methodology and implementation approach complies fully with the SAE Standard:

  • JA 1011: "Evaluation Criteria for Reliability-centerd Maintenance (Rcm) Process" (http://www.sae.org/technical/standards/JA1011_199908)
  • JA1012: "A Guide to the Reliability-centered Maintenance (Rcm) Standard" (http://www.sae.org/technical/standards/JA1012_200201)

What we provide World-wide client portfolio

Our international background enables us to deliver our service in English, Putonghua (Mandarin) and Cantonese. Our scope of service consists of the followings:

  • "Introduction to RCM" Training Course

This three-day training course enables the delegates to appreciate the basics of RCM and also to participate as members of the project team. Learn more about this course

  • "RCM Facilitator" Training Course

This ten-day RCM facilitator course enables the delegates to conduct basic RCM analyses by leading a team of members who have attended a three-day 'Introduction to RCM' Training Course.

  • RCM Technical Service

RCM project is usually equipment or system based. For clients who wish to train up their own RCM facilitators at a later stage, we will manage and implement the project for them.

Our group have trained over 24,000 people on this technology, including over half of the of the Fortune 100 companies. Our RCM methodology had been applied to over 1000 sites belonging to over 475 companies, covering 40 countries over the 6 continents and virtually every single major industry, which includes:

  • Power Generation, Transmission & Distribution
  • Nuclear Power
  • Public Utility
  • Public Transport
  • Military
  • Petrochemical
  • Oil Refinery
  • Food and Beverage
  • Metal and Refinery
  • Chemical
  • Mining
  • Automotive
  • Paper and Pulp
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Electrical and Electronics
  • Others

RCM has enabled companies to: Can I apply RCM if my equipment or plant is brand new?
  • improve reliability of equipment, safety of operation
  • conformance to environmental regulations and quality of product.
  • reduce scheduled maintenance workloads by 40-70 % at the same time.
  • retain the skill & knowledge of its equipment within the company to cope with staff turnover.
  • develop a group of highly motivated maintenance staff with improved working relations with other departments.
  • better teamwork

for new equipment .....

RCM was developed to compile maintenance programmes for new types of aircraft before they enter service.  This makes it ideally suited to the development of maintenance programmes for new equipment of all kinds, especially where no history is available.

and for old .....

If RCM is used correctly to re-assess the maintenance requires of existing equipment, it transforms both the requirements themselves and the way the maintenance function as a whole is perceived.  The result is more effective, more harmonious and much cheaper maintenance.
